DJ DAN P
Dan’s DJ history
I started DJing in my bedroom as a teenager & shortly after I began working in local bars.
Aged 18 I started DJing in a couple of nightclubs in Kent. One club was a high street club playing a mix of party & dance music & the other was strictly UK Garage which was really popular at the time.
A few years later I began DJing at Cooling Castle Barn as their resident DJ. I worked there for 15 years covering over 2000 weddings. After many years at ‘The Barn’ I went back to night club work for a short period.
After a ‘major global incident’ in the early 2020’s, the wedding industry came calling once again! I’ve been working for Glow Events (The Orangery, Castle Westenhanger & The Gardens Yalding) & running my own wedding DJ service. Being part of kentweddingdj.com is a major part of my DJ life now. Kent Wedding DJ’s helps me meet likeminded couples who want a great party!
Dan’s Questions & Answers
Why do you DJ weddings? “It is amazing to be part of such a happy day & it’s a privilege to be chosen by a couple on such an important day. The party is a big part of the celebrations.”
What type of music do you play & what is your style of Djing? “I am an open format DJ, therefore can play anything that is asked of me. But my preference is lively dance music, disco, soul & classic RnB - think Kisstory meets disco! I also love sing-along rock & party song. My style is lively, I like to beat mix & drop songs that keep the atmosphere & energy up. I also love to throw in a curveball, playing something you know but may not have heard for a while.”
Is there any style of music you’d like to play more of at weddings? “I love house & Nu-disco but some of it can be quite niche. I started out DJing Drum & Bass & UK Garage so if I get the chance, I’ll drop a few of these tunes!”
Do you DJ other events? “Yes, birthday parties, Christmas/holiday events & even silent discos. But weddings are my go-to!”
Most important piece of DJ equipment & why? “My laptop! It stores all my music & runs my DJ software, it’s the beating heart of my DJ set up.”
Do you take requests when DJing? “Yes of course, they are an important part of the job & always considered. Not all requests are in keeping with the night (the couples style) but I do my best to keep everyone happy.”
What is the most important skill a DJ needs? “The ability to read the room & change the music when needed to keep the vibe going in the right direction.”
Where are you based, where do you cover? “I’m based out of north Kent but travel all over the country. As well as Kent Wedding DJs, I am part of Cheltenham DJ’s team & I’m also a member of Wedding Jam, a national DJ agency.”
